Getting an EIN
The IRS says you never have to pay a fee for an EIN and warns against websites that charge for one1. Some formation services offer to file it for you; Bizee lists $702. Doing it yourself takes one online session.
The IRS online application must be finished in one session; it cannot be saved. If approved, the EIN is issued immediately online. The tool runs Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., Saturday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 6 p.m. to midnight, Eastern time1.
After approval
Step 1
Apply for the EIN on irs.gov
Free, one session, issued immediately if approved.
Step 2
Open a business bank account
Banks usually ask for the formation document and the EIN.
Step 3
Calendar the yearly state filing
Missing it can bring penalties, like Delaware's $200 plus interest.

We do not earn anything from your quotes or sign-ups today. Every partner link is a plain link to the partner's own site, without a referral code. We may join partners' referral programs in the future, and this notice will say so before that changes.

Prices and state fees are what the named source published on the date we read it. The state's own filing office and the provider's own page are the final word on fees and terms.
